Stayed at the Rendezvous Hotel Melbourne during my solo trip over this year!
Location
The hotel is located a short walk away from Flinders Street Station, and also has a tram stop diagonally in front of the hotel! The next closest tram stop is a quick 3mins walk away – at Flinders/Collins St – and this tram stop has plenty of fast food joints around it such as Maccas (McDonald’s), Hungry Jacks (Burger King) and KFC. But do also beware of this junction – it’s pretty known to be a dangerous spot and there are often some drunkards at night who are lingering around.

Getting there / Lobby / Hotel Entrance
Flying in from Singapore, I landed at Tullamarine Airport (Melbourne Airport) and had taken a SkyBus to Melbourne City (Southern Cross Station). From Southern Cross Station, you can either take 2 trams – one across the grid and another southward. Alternatively, you can walk either stretch of the way and then take the tram – which is what I did but I was being THAT typical tourist with all that luggage-rolling noise in the street oops ><
On a side note, here’s a neat little thing that my friend told me near the end of my trip, which actually makes total sense: the trams running along Southern Cross Station (horizontally or vertically) will usually have the models with low-floors (i.e. luggage and wheelchair friendly for sure)! So the best way is actually… to take the tram first, then to walk or take another tram 😆
The View
There… wasn’t really a view because the windows were facing the wall opposite 😅 But the room did get some nice sunlight in during the day. The top half of the curtains are sheer like day curtains so no blackout curtains there for you to sleep in till half the daytime is gone 😂

The Room
I had booked a Queen Commerce Room, but was given an upgrade to a King Commerce Room upon check in ☺️
The room is spacious – so much so that I could have a special corner on the floor for my 24” luggage, and still leave the ironing board set up next to it, with plenty of room to walk around.
All plugs are AU plugs (no international power plugs), and master switches can be found next to the bed.
The big TV can be connected to via Google Cast, and also provides access to local TV channels.

Bathroom
The bathroom is comfortable enough for 1, but will be squeezy for 2. The lights operates on a motion-sensor, and automatically switches off after awhile (not sure if it was 10mins or so). The sensor seems to only be at the sink area, shower area not included 😅 So the lights went off halfway through my shower a couple of times 😅😅
Also, the shower is separated by a glass screen (no door – see the second photo below to understand what I mean), so there’s a chance where water might leak out of the shower area. You would need to be careful not to leave the floor mat right outside the shower area, otherwise it might get soaked up from the shower water.
No dental kit was provided, but there was a vanity kit, shower cap and sanitary bag. A spare box of tissues and a spare roll of toilet paper can be found in the drawer of the vanity sink.

Amenities
The iron and ironing board can be found in the closet, along with the safe deposit box. Disposable room slippers are provided.
There is also a coffee and tea corner, with wine glasses, normal glasses, and teacups. An electric kettle is provided as well.

Breakfast
Rooms without breakfast can still opt-in. If I remember correctly, it’s about AUD20+ if you pay upfront at check-in, and AUD30+ subsequently if you decide to walk-in on the spot.
Other random recallable stuff
A few other random details…
When you first arrive at the hotel, you’ll realise that you need to climb a flight of steep stairs in order to enter the hotel lobby. Now this would be troublesome if you have a big luggage with you (like I did) so the trick is to head to the left side of the lobby door (where the flight of stairs is inside), and there’s this narrow corridor that leads to the elevator!
There’s only 1 elevator that reaches the ground floor, but there are 2 lifts in the hotel. The other will reach the upper ground level (where the check in counter is). This does mean that if you end up in the special elevator from the level where your hotel room is at, you can actually cut straight to the ground level and out of the hotel in a jiffy!
Also, I stayed in Room 919, which was conveniently located right in front of the elevators! In terms of noise, I was pretty okay with the occasional sounds of people talking at the lift lobby – I think it’s very much bearable.
