Ascott Makati

So I went back to Manila (aka my other home 😝) last year in 2019 with my family. And as usual, we stayed at our trusty choice: Ascott Makati!

Ascott Makati (aka Ascott Hotel Makati) is a serviced residence / serviced apartment in Ayala Centre, and part of Glorietta 4 of the Glorietta Mall (which comprises of Glorietta 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). It’s always the go-to place for my parents and I for a few reasons:

  • Accessibility (I mean, the mall it literally right downstairs and it’s connected directly to another 2 malls),
  • Service (friendly and helpful staff)
  • Breakfast is yummmmm (OMG THAT FREEFLOW SLICED MANGOES y’all should see how fast those get whipped up. I mean, the mangoes in the Philippines are great – sweet even if sour. IMAGINE HAVING SO MUCH OF IT FOR BREAKFAST. YUMYUM.)
  • There are bedrooms (which is a must for my mom because my dad and I are night-owls, and she’s a light sleeper :P)
  • Furnished Kitchen! (since we’re familiar with the place and all, we do like to shop for groceries in the supermarket nearby and prep some meals on those lazier stay-home time)

So read on if you would like to know more about this place 😀 Please note that the details here are accurate as of May 2019 (that’s pre-Covid19).

Location

Ascott Makati is located right above Glorietta 4, so you can alight at Glorietta 4’s drop-off point. Instead of taking the main mall entrance (that leads into Glorietta Mall), there’s another separate entrance just for Ascott Makati that is towards the left of the mall’s entrance (if you’re facing the mall’s entrance), which is also nearer to side where SM Makati or Ayala MRT is.

Glorietta 4 drop-off area

Once you enter the dedicated entrance and have your belongings scanned by security, you’ll find yourself in a cosy lift lobby. The main hotel lobby of Ascott Makati is at Level 6, so you’ll just need to take the lift up. As for your luggage, there are friendly hotel staff around at the entrance who can help you with them 🙂

Hotel’s Main Lobby (L6)

There are 2 towers in Ascott Makati, both accessible from the hotel lobby at L6.

Side note: Ascott is above Glorietta (there’s 1, 2, 3, 4 in the same building and 5 is a separate building on its own), and Glorietta itself is connected (via air-conditioned walkway) to SM Makati on one side, and The Landmark on another. The Landmark is ALSO connected via a bridge to Greenbelt (there’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and the Ayala Museum. So basically… there’s like A LOT OF MALLS AROUND and they’re all linked 😆

Room

We stayed in the 2-Bedroom Deluxe Suite. There’s 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 walk-in wardrobes, a dining room, kitchen, living room and washing area.

All rooms are non-smoking 🙂
Check in is at 3pm and Check-out at 12pm.

The View

Our room was on Level 16, and the windows were facing mainly the west and south-west, so we could see the whole of Glorietta (which is right downstairs), Park Terraces condo, and The Landmark.

The master bedroom also had a view of Ayala MRT, SM Makati and the Glorietta 4 (Dolphin) Park (there’s a night food market here every Friday to Sunday! Read about Mercato Centrale for more info!)

Bedrooms, Bathrooms and Walk-in closet

The master bedroom comes with a King bed, work desk, television with cable channels and cabinets.

The bathroom is connected to the master bedroom and comes with a bathtub, handheld shower and rain shower.

Further down the corridor is the walk-in wardrobe with an in-house safe and hangers provided. You can also find the laundry bags here.

The second bedroom connects straight to the living room and has a Queen bed, television (with cable TV channels), and cabinets. The walk-in wardrobe is connected to the room and has plenty of hangers provided (no in-house safe for this walk-in wardrobe). There is a second bathroom connected, which is smaller than the master bathroom and has a standing shower area with a handheld shower head. The mirrors are also cupboards! So although it looks like there’s lesser space on the vanity sink than the one in the master bedroom, there’s lots of storage space at the same time.

Toiletries / Amenities

For those who are curious, here are photos of some of the toiletries that were provided (in case you wanna see what there is or what scents the bath liquids come with).

Living room and Dining Room

So in the living room there’s a sofa, an armchair, a television with cable TV (Skycable) and a coffee table. There are also storage compartments in the TV console.

The dining room has a nice large dining table that can fit 6 to 8 people, and is next to the kitchen counter (including the sink).

Kitchen

Fully equipped, the kitchen comes with an induction cooker, oven, microwave oven, refrigerator / fridge, coffee and tea making facilities (such as an electric kettle) and even a coffee capsule machine.

Pots and pans are provided, along with other kitchen utensils and tools.

Washer/Dryer Area

There are 2 closets near the front door. One contains a hanging rod (we hang our clothes there after putting them on some hangers), the ironing board, and iron. The second contains the 2-in-1 washing machine (washer) and dryer.

In one of the two closets

They had also provided us with a packet of washing detergent, but we preferred using a brand that we’ve used before so we went to buy some instead ~ So for those of you who have never been to the Philippines, some of the greatest things (in my opinion) that they sell includes… shampoo/conditioner/face wash/washing powder/laundry detergent… in sachets 😀 (which we don’t have in Singapore… except in Filipino grocery stores).

Water

Okay so one really important thing is that it’s not advisable to drink tap water in the Philippines (unless you are sure that there is some sort of filter installed in the water systems of the building).

What we usually do when we return back for a holiday is to buy large bottles of water (like 1 litre bottles) from The Landmark’s supermarket (2 malls away, directly connected via Glorietta).

We accidentally found out last year that Ascott Makati is actually able to provide us with a water dispenser!! (What have we been carrying bottles of water for lol😅 ). It’s affordable (I forgot the price…) and really convenient. If you need more, you can just ring housekeeping and order another gallon, which they will deliver to your apartment and replace the old one for you 😀

All in the comforts of our apartment!

Gym / Fitness Centre

Open 24 hours! Exercise towels are provided, and if you don’t have a water bottle, you may use the paper cups provided. There’s a water dispenser for cold/hot drinking water, and in-house provision of non-plain water such as lemon water or cucumber water! There are also lockers provided.

The gym requires hotel card access, so remember to bring that with you.

Babycot

We had no idea why this was in our apartment since we didn’t request for one, but here’s how the babycot is like, for those of you who are interested 🙂

Breakfast

Breakfast is served daily at Myron’s, located at the Hotel lobby on Level 6 (right opposite/facing the check-in counters).

Myron’s (L6)

It’s served buffet-style and serves Asian and Western breakfast, along with salads, breads, cheeseboard, and fruits. As with most hotel buffets, eggs can be ordered over the counter in your preferred style.

The highlight: Philippine Mangoes at the fruit section. They’re SO GOOD, SO SWEET (Philippine Mangoes are always THE BEST 😍😍) and so they get wiped out really fast 😆. They’re cut up and served in bowls, so it’s really fuss free 🙂

Food of the heavens 😍 Philippine mangoes are the besttttt

One downside of the seats near the doors though: the wind gusts gets really strong when the doors to the pool open and close (pretty often, if there are customers or staff walking in and out). So if you have long hair like me, you might wanna have it tied up 😅 (and be careful of your tissues, they might fly off too).

Swimming pool

Right outside Myron’s (on the outdoor side) is a big swimming pool with an attached Jacuzzi. There’s also a poolside bar and beach beds around the pool. Myron’s overlooks this pool so if you’re lucky, you can get a window seat in Myron’s to enjoy the sunlight and get the poolside-vibes while having your meal.

You can find out more about their other amenities and facilities at their official website. On a side note, there’s also a barber shop on L6 called The John Barbers Groomers.
