So I was very fortunate to have been able to visit this famous omurice (オムライス a.k.a omelette rice) place in Kyoto, by the famous (and always cheerful) Chef Yukimura Motokichi!! 😀

Reservation is a must to have a seat in this restaurant. I was extremelyyyyyyyy lucky to have been able to get a seat at the last moment!

How to go + Map
Address of the restaurant:
In Japanese: 〒604-8017 京都府 京都市中京区材木町185-4
In English: 185-4 Zaimokuchō, Nakagyō-ku, Kyoto, 604-8017, Japan
The entrance to the restaurant is along a slightly narrow corridor. From the outside of the narrow corridor you can find this sign:

Wifi & the place inside
The restaurant is a homely and cosy little place with an open-kitchen concept. There are about 8 seats at the counter that faces the open kitchen, and 6 seats at another little private area.
If you are assigned the 6-seater table, you can stand behind the 8 seats and watch the process as Chef Motokichi cooks and cuts his signature omelette at the counter. Also for the ones sitting at the 6-seater table, he will have your rice cooked, place the un-cut omelette on top of the rice, and have the dish and garnishes brought over to your table. At your table (and right in front of you!) he will cut open the steaming hot omelette, pour the demi-glace sauce and sprinkle the garnishing. So your dish will be fresh, and you’ll get your up-close and personal time with him opening the fluffy omelette in front of you too! 🙂
The restaurant has free wifi available, so do make use of it if you’re going to be posting a lot of Instagram stories of your time here! The wifi password can be found in front of you on the tissue holder (and I didn’t realise this till the end of my meal HAHAHA. So I had to live with slow data for the rest of the night since I hit my FUP whooooppssss)
Side note: There are also hangers for you to hang your coat on them! 🙂
Staff / Language
Most of the staff at Kichi Kichi are able to speak English. So no worries about the language barrier 🙂 I’m sure they are very used to interacting with tourists, since people from all around the world are always coming to have a try at this famous (thanks to the viral videos) omurice.
Photos/Videos
Chef Motokichi is definitely not camera shy, so feel free to take photos and videos of him! Ask to take a photo with him and he’d gladly join in! In fact, I took an Instagram video with him!!! xD And one more when leaving, with all the staff and him saying bye!

The Food
There are multiple dishes on the menu. And even for the signature Kichi Kichi Omurice (a.k.a. Fluffy Open Omelette over the Fried Rice), there’s the regular size and the half size. You’ll see that Chef Motokichi has special molds for the rice. The fried rice for regular size is placed in the silver mold, and for the half size, the fried rice is fitted into the red mold. The omelette is sooo nice and runny, and there’s ample sauce served over the omurice 😍!

I ordered the half-size KichiKichi Omurice (1450 yen). The half size is good for small eaters or if you’re ordering other dishes as well. I ordered it because I wanted to have a try of the dish, but forgot that I haven’t had dinner after walking about all day (my slot was at 8pm) so I was actually so hungry, that the half-size felt a little bit small for me xD Plus, I didn’t order any other dishes to try ~
The demi-glace sauce that Chef Motokichi uses contains beef, so if you’re unable to eat beef, you can inform him and his staff, and they’ll switch the sauce to a vegetarian demi-glace!
If you have any dietary concerns involving beef, chicken, onion, shimeji mushrooms or green soybeans (edamame), do inform the staff! – this reminder is also shown on their menu!

Do note that there is no dedicated parking space (for those who are driving in Japan) and all seats in the restaurant are non-smoking 🙂 Payment can be done in cash or card. According to their website, all credit cards are accepted!
Do check out their official website for more details, including about the rest days and reservation: http://kichi2.net/ 🙂
